Just a few days ago we learned that, among the nation's largest racial and ethnic groups, a greater share of Hispanics in 2010 lived in poverty than any other group.  So, when I say that nearly everyone in America knows someone looking for work, this is especially true among Latinos.

Washington, DC – The National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC) and the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts (NHFA) today denounce the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science (AMPAS) for discriminating against the Puerto Rico film industry by expelling them from entry into the Foreign Language Film category.

US Labor Department announces release of $41.2 million in unemployment insurance modernization incentive funds to Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor has certified for release $41,247,756 in unemployment insurance modernization incentive funds to Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico qualified for its full share of the funds available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by including in its law provisions that assist recent entrants to the workforce, part-time workers and individuals who become unemployed because of compelling family reasons.

NPRC COMMENDS DOJ CIVIL RIGHTS DIVISION AROUND POLICE CORRUPTION ON THE ISLAND

Washington DC - The National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC) commends the Departmernt of Justice for conducting an extensive investigation on police abuse and misconduct. The findings reveal a culture of violence and systemic rule breaking environment.

"The DOJ did their job. The American citizens of Puerto Rico deserve a police force that protects them not intimidate of abuse them," stated Rafael A. Fantauzzi President & CEO.

HAVE WE TURNED DIVERSITY INTO AN OBSTACLE FOR OUR COMMUNITIES?

In 2010 Senator Robert Menendez (D- NJ) conducted a survey asking Corporate America to share their commitments on diversity & inclusion. To me the most shocking result was finding that in corporations with formal diversity management programs, Hispanics tend to be on the losing end. Yet, in corporations with no formal diversity programs you can find Hispanics in high ranking positions and access to business opportunities. I can’t help but think as a crusader on the diversity battle... are we hurting our communities by pushing corporations too hard on diversity? 

NPRC CONSIDERS PRESIDENT OBAMA'S VISIT TO ISLAND A HISTORIC AND STRATEGIC VISIT TO VALIDATE KEY HISPANIC U.S. CITIZENS

Washington, DC – The National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC) today praised President Barak Obama’s historical visit to the Island of Puerto Rico. During the 2010 campaign, then democratic candidate Obama promised that if elected to the presidency he would visit the Island as President of the United States. The last sitting president to make an official visit to the island was President John F. Kennedy in 1961, 50 years ago.
